25. Mount Rushmore
A giant 59-foot carved sculpture is the reason South Dakota is well-known. The monument is chiseled into Mount Rushmore, located in the Black Hills region of Keystone. John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum, a US sculptor and artist, and his son Lincoln started creating this super-sized monument in 1927, completing it in a 14-year period. Four US presidents namely Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, carved out of granite, are featured in the monument.
